Rachael shares her view of what complementary therapy is, how it can aid you and why you should find a therapy to compliment your current treatment.

I am a complementary therapist. Complementary as in I compliment other ways of treating illness. Pretty cool ey?!

You don’t need to choose. You’re not rejecting your current treatment or your doctor. What you’re doing is adding another layer to how you are treating yourself. How can that be a bad thing?

The move towards other therapies

I remember when I got into this, it was due to severe anxiety resulting in long term headaches, which painkillers could not solve, without me dribbling from the corner of my mouth, and my jaw locking out due to the amount of time I spent grinding my teeth in my sleep! Although I had a Spiritual belief system, it didn’t extend to healing. But I thought ‘f**k it! what harm can it do? I’d rather try to solve this without anti-depressants, than not.’ And that outlook changed my life!

For me, lack of knowledge is what creates fear or uncertainty in people. And I luuurrve sharing knowledge. So please have a look through my other blogs where I try to share as much as I can. To keep you informed. So that there is no uncertainty. So you can make decisions about your health which are informed and going to get you the best results that you can.

What I do! and Why I think it’s bloomin’ amazing!

I am trained in the following complementary therapies:

  • Reiki Energy Healing

  • Hypnotherapy

  • Crystal Healing

  • Sound Healing

  • Past Life Regression

As you can see every single one of them will work with Modern Western Medicine. All of them are, in fact, varying forms of energetic healing. If you would like more information on how energy healing works, please have a look at my series of blogs as to how energy healing works here.

All of them work on the emotional, the physical, the mental and the Spiritual parts of your psyche in many ways. And here, for Spiritual, please don’t think of a belief system. Think about your life path. Your ethos for life. The things that drive you and make your life the legacy it is meant to be.

They will all work particularly well on the emotional; emotions being energy. So works very well on stress and emotional related illnesses. Among stress related illnesses are hormonal imbalance, particularly reproductive, fibromyalgia is now being proved to be rooted in long term stress, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, immune illnesses and anxiety among many, many others. Emotional illnesses such as depression and grief. On the physical, it works excellently for pain, pain being simply the body telling the brain where there is an issue in the body. From there it filters out to the physical manifestation itself. It takes many years of a physical energetic imbalance to manifest a physical illness, and so it will take some time and a long term series of treatments to effect the physical in some cases.

The most clinical of these are the Hypnotherapy, and one of it’s sister therapies, Past Life Regression; series of blogs here about how regression works and another one here about healing the mental layer . These work very, very well on the mindsets that create particularly emotional illness. But also linked into physical illness as well. Everyone has heard of the placebo effect? Our mind is so, sooooo powerful! If you don’t give enough credit to your mind over your physical health, you are missing a big piece in your health puzzle.

And don’t forget that mindsets effect our physical health in other ways; overeating or eating processed food due to lack of self care, not going outside and exercising for the same reasons, overworking and creating the stress in the first place! The list goes on . . .

Stress is the biggest cause of illness in the Western world. Fact!!

What else I recommend for a holistic (whole-istic) approach

I additionally recommend that people who have physical illness and emotional illness look at many other therapies. My top recommendations for other therapies are a Nutritionist and/or Kinesiologist to check how else you can get the vitamins and minerals you are likely lacking into your diet naturally if possible and what you need to cut out, a Herbalist, especially in cases where the GP cannot treat the underlying cause but only the symptom, such as blood pressure or hormonal illness, and a Bowen Therapist, Cranial Sacral Therapist or a Chiropractor who works with something like the Graston Technique (all of these help retrain the nerves and/or muscles which tend to bring the bones back out of place after traditional chiropractic work). Your spine contains part of your brain and all the nerves for the rest of your body. If you think that a bit of your back is painful or out of place, it is literally going to effect all the nerves in that area, and therefore the organs and parts of the body it controls.

For me this works on all layers; so bringing real change as soon as possible. I can work on the emotional, mental and Spiritual layers very effectively, and as my work filters down to the physical, using physical treatments to bring the change forward as soon as possible.

And for me change is what people are looking for; otherwise they wouldn’t be looking away from what they were doing with their GP.

I also recommend that people work with their GP to get the correct diagnosis initially, and also in terms of weaning off pain, blood pressure, and anti-depressant medication sensibly, when it is best for the client.

So if you have been thinking you need to choose your GP over something alternative; you don’t!

If you haven’t been able to understand why it can make a difference, hopefully I will have helped change your mind!

And if you are looking to make a change in your life, I hope this has given you the inspiration to walk forward.

Please have a look at my Facebook page here if you would like to find out how I could help you personally; either through one to one work or through group workshops.

Till next time my friends

Love as always
