Fear, Dragons and Mysticism; a channelled message from Merlin’s Cave.
An aptly timed visit to Cornwall, brings with it an apt message. Exploring fear, on feeling it in order to Master it, and embracing it as a part of our humanity, the message the dragon has to give us is a beautiful one. Would love to hear how this sits with you at the moment.
So you may have seen the pics from Nici and I going down to the West Country. We stayed in the beautiful cottages that Nici’s friend has just bought; Fox Valley Cottages. Converted farm houses, swimming pool. sauna, jacuzzi and a large piece of country side! So perfect time with the initial build of the coronavirus to literally get away from everyone. Funny how the Universe works! One of the things we wanted to do was to go to Tintagel and Merlin’s Cave. Whether it was the thousand year old marketing ploy or a real pull, we didn’t know. Coming from Hampshire, home to Winchester and another site associated with the legends of the Round Table, it was a draw for sure.
When we got there the weather had turned; wind and rain. And the reputed castle of Arthur is on a very steep hill; on an island at high tide! We were commenting on the walk down the hill how neither of us were fit due to recent and for me longer term illness and baby making, and back in the day, this would have been a pilgrimage walk. A walk to cleanse the soul; to muse and ponder your soul. As you made your way to a sacred site, which provided you with the knowledge which you sought. So we were glad not to have endured the actual trek from Southampton; the wind and rain whipping us down the hill were bad enough.

Neither Nici or I are good with heights. It is something I have personally performed past life regression on myself, and I have found the cause. But it still provides a physical reaction in me. So when we were looking up from the castle edges and the pathways, down to the beach of Merlin’s Cave, my belly did a wobble. Hmph, I thought, this indeed is a pilgrimage for me! As Nici teetered down the cliff path, she looked back up at me, expecting me to be behind her, and instead I was just about getting to grips with the first step. But I did, as I always did; I felt the fear, breathed out and knew I wanted to be on that beach more than I feared this feeling, and so I gripped on for dear life and started to manoeuvre down at a pace which I knew I could handle. i.e. slow!!!!

When Nici and I rounded a corner which exposed both sides of us to Atlantic winds whipping in around the island, I knew we would feel like we were being blown away. So I gripped on for dear life and felt that wind blow us both in all directions! With this wind we clamoured another staircase down. With the last staircase, the steps were slippy and the slate walls damp with rain trickling down in little rivulets; this was certainly an area covered at high tide. As we attempted the last stair case to the beach floor, the old metal stair case melted away, rusted at the end. Like an old lady, I warned Nici over every loose footing (How I ended up in front of her in the end I’ll never know!) and clung and swung myself down onto the slate boulders of the beach to be sure I wouldn’t fall. I started to climb the rocks to the sand and felt like an old lady again; frail and vulnerable. In this moment I realised I was still holding my fear from the walk. I was now on the beach, clamouring on rocks and should be in my element. ‘Right, you like this shit Rach. Let that go; ground yourself girl and remember who who you are.’ I used my grounding to feel firmly into the beach and solid rock all around me, and remembered I am an explorer, a mountain goat and a child of the wilderness. I stood up, looked around me, and breathed in the beauty. Yes, I was here, I was here!
As we explored the beach, I began to really feel the magic of the place. The main cave to the left; three smaller ones to the right. A beautiful waterfall which was hidden at high tide cascading down! Multicoloured rocks all around; slates in pink and green. Agate crystals on the floor of the beach scattered all around. The dark slate making up the sides of the island, jutting off into the Atlantic, protecting the coast line like stegosaurus scales.

Unsure of how quickly the tide rose we stuck to the area closest to the stairs, and just felt into the land. We both intuitively walked towards the cave itself; Merlin’s Cave. We teetered across the uneven rocks in the half dark, trying to pick our way between the rock pools. Heading deeper into the cave, we found a place to sit, the wind still sailing through from one end to the other of this open cave. A part of me wanting to travel all the way through to the other side, but knowing it wasn’t sensible. We had both already felt the dragon energy within the cave before we had come that day, and he did not disappoint. The energy in the darkness of the cave was palpable, and you could physically see the collection of energy forming itself into the image of the dragon. This is rare and I’ve only experienced this physical manifestation in few special places. The darkness very much serving it’s purpose here; without the darkness you are unable to see the energy gather.

White horns and two lines of scales down his mighty back, his main body being as black and wet as the slate around him.
‘Those who seek wisdom here find folly. Those who seek folly here, find freedom’.
Initially I felt I was reprimanded for coming here to seek wisdom, but as Nici and I felt into the words more we realised folly did not mean foolishness. It mean fun! And indeed, I was having fun; childhoods of picking up ‘lucky’ stones from the beach were rekindled.
‘Fear will never leave humanity; it is still serves a great purpose. It is neither your undoing nor your goal. It simply is. It does not breathe and feel and act. It simply is. Humans will always feel fear as it is in your make-up to do so; it has served you hardily for millennia and it will continue to do so. It is the reason you are here; breathing and eating. It is your friend and your protector and has allowed mankind to flourish.
You are the ones who do not serve yourself. When you feel the fear more than the joy abundant around you; that is the choice you make. When you choose to control, rather than allow, you choose fear. When you choose to stand back rather than act; you choose fear. When you choose to rage rather than speak; you choose fear.
Aye, I understand many of you feel it is a choice that you cannot yet control. But when will you control it? When will you choose to listen to the wisdom of fear, but not act on it? When will you understand that feeling it, does not mean it has to consume you?
So feel it, feel it. Embrace it. Allow it to course through your veins like lightening. And watch where that lightening lands. For that is where the true issue lies. Not within you. But outside of you. You are reacting to outside stimulus. Do not own that stimulus by pushing the fear down deep within in. Let it flow through you and land outside of you. Feel the fear; never hold it within yourself for fear of what it may show you.
Mastery of fear does not come from rejecting it; it comes from holding it, loving it, letting it guide you and then letting it on it’s way. So now my dear, I will let you go on your way.’
Nici and I spoke about what the dragon of Merlin’s Cave showed me. That I had conquered my fear that day, not by ignoring it, not by holding that fear and letting it bind me and sit with me, but by feeling it. I felt that fear, a fear I know well, and a fear I expected. I have the tools, and have always had the tools, to deal with that fear. Did it feel good at the time? Hell no! It was petrifying. But how amazing did I feel to be here, on this beach, with pockets full of stones? I can’t express how wonderful that feeling of Mastering my Fear was.

The Dragon was bound; not by religious zealots or by the church (although that may well have happened at some point). He showed me his bonds were made from fear. Fear of his fierce appearance; his protective love of humanity. Fear of the dark; in which his lives in order to help us embrace our own darkness. Fear of the unknown; of not being able to control something we don’t understand.
As we break our own bonds of fear, we free him. We free him to do his work which he came here thousands of years ago to help us with. No we are ready to hear his wisdom. No we are ready.
Those that come to Merlin’s beach do so through fear; they have no choice. Nature has designed it that way. Those who come to that beach are already worthy; they have travelled far and faced an awesome physical task. When we were there, we saw many struggling with the steps; being helped up and down by loved ones. But so great was their need to seek wisdom from the beach, to gather in this holy and legendary space, that they accomplished it.
As we went to leave the cave a group of tourists were stood around a rock pool singing in harmony. Beautiful sacred harmonies of Gloria’s. I am unsure if they knew they were singing to the water, charging and worshipping the dragon’s pool, but they knew that the resonance within the cave was inspiring, and deeply healing. The echoes of the harmonies bringing peace. Sacred song is sacred no matter it’s origin, the sacredness of the place being felt by other, Christian pilgrims. And the intention is the power behind the collective worship.
We walked back up the cliff steps; a longer more round about route. Still feeling the burn in our legs, as we went for a cup of tea in the cafe across the way to warm our bones. Feeling the wind in our hair still, the damp in our clothes, the song in our hearts and the wisdom in our bones.
Love as always
