The Banshee; the facts and the fiction (3 min read)

In this blog Rachael talks about her own experience and connection with this wonderful Spirit, the mythology behind her and why you should see her in a new light.

I am thrilled to be able to talk to you about this topic.

I hope you will find that I connect into this beautiful Earth Spirit in a way which is not only unique but also authentic.

My Connection

I first became aware of my connection to the Banshee 6/7 years ago. We were clearing some woodland of soldiers and the most wonderful woman in white stepped forward. Although I knew she was an Elemental type energy, it did not occur to me that it was a Banshee I was working with. She cleared the land so empathetically and effectively; reflecting back at me my own balance of the feminine and masculine balance of logic and emotion. She didn’t just clear the immediate area, but I found the land changed at least 12 miles away! A regular image I saw on my daily routine, of soldiers with guns drawn, which I had become so used to I was dismissive of, vanished overnight!

She began to step forward for more and more clearance work, and eventually with my healing work too, and I realised it was the Banshee I was working with.

As a Spiritual Medium I believe I am lucky in that I am able to easily discern which spirits I have stepping forward to help, without distracting myself from the healing itself (I teach my students that a healer should never stretch themselves to pick up on information for a ‘reading’ during a healing, unless it presents itself naturally as part of work. If you wish to provide insight, I always recommend to do so afterwards, and make it relevant for the healing, unless you have express permission to provide a reading. Bending the energy down often to provide a reading, means that you gives a lesser healing and also split the energy for two purposes rather than one).

And I often found the Banshee holding space. She stepped forward for women, empaths, those who love the environment, and of course, those of Celtic blood! Although I approach the topic from the Irish perspective, my mother being Irish, it is clear from British history and mythology, and from interpreting Spirits across Europe that she is intwinned in our history, well past the Irish line.

Her Mythology

For the Irish line we travel back to the Tuatha De Danann, the Tribe of the Goddess Dana. Legend has it the original people of Ireland were ousted from their land by interlopers. They set sail, scattered to the winds. A Goddess drew together the broken tribe, who became the Tuatha Dé Danaan. She gave them back the island. The myths tell us that they appeared through a mist on the coast of Connaught; and that Dana herself was said to be the mist binding them together. They lived harmoniously with those who had previously evicted them. When it came time for the Tribe to pass over, a tribe of God-like Kings and Queens, they passed back into the mist, to join Dana. There they remain with her and the ‘folk’ of Dana.

Today they get passed off as fairy and nymphs (if you haven’t done so please, please, please watch American Gods on Amazon Prime! Great TV and Spiritually enlightening!). But in doing so, we forget the power and majesty, not just of the Goddess, but also of the Spirits which reside with her in the Mist of the other world, or the Magh Mell in the old Irish tongue. The Banshee is one of those Spirits. And she is so much more than a bringer of death, which has been attributed to her, and made many fearful of her.

We will all have heard tales of white women in forests. And these tales span the globe. My belief is that when the Tribe were set sale they travelled north to Norway. Here resides many wonderful Gods who have also travelled here and been worshipped by our Ancestors. Odin the Wise; without out him there would be no W(Oden’s)day! And of course the beautiful Freya; the Goddess of the Underworld and the ferry-er of souls. If she isn’t a Banshee; I wouldn’t know what one is!

Who She Is

The Banshee is at her core a healer. She comes to us in our darkest hours. She heals souls that have passed and those that weep for that soul. She helps us express our deep sorrow and weep and wail. She helps us to release our anger, and love our anger. It is a beautiful emotion on so many levels. She often screams for us; to release the pain Empaths and Sensitives often hold inside. Her concern is that if we hold onto this anger and pain, it will embitter and twist our beautiful healing souls, dragging us away from our true nature. In doing so, away from our paths. Instead she wants to heal and empower us, in order to help us find our tongue. So that we can speak from a place of love and not anger and not hold onto the pain and frustration.

She focuses us instead on love, joy and community. On finding our particular soul tribe. Which doesn’t mean that you have to get on with every Tom, Dick and Harriette you come across. It means that you love and accept both you and them for where you both are. So distant admiration maybe a great place for some people! In moving others out, we allow space to move new people in. These are the ones to focus our energy on moving forward.

She holds space so beautifully for us; her love is absolute and holds you up. Her wish for your happiness makes her heart beat out of her chest. She knows when you to call you out on your own s**t and give you the kick up the bum you sometimes need when we are sat in the dregs of our own misery.

Working with sound she cries and keens with you, once released turning that into the sound of laughter. Laughter being the sound of love!!

I have been helped so deeply on my own healing journey by her. I have had my fair share of loss and trauma, as well as pent up anger. Through my journey, I have been able to find my voice and to express myself from a place of love. I have released feminine anger not just for me, but for generations of my female ancestors. Their loss and their frustration.

And the Banshee wants her call to be heard again. She wants to reconnect to us so we she can help us heal. Properly and deeply.  Putting right the veils that her beauty have been shrouded under .

Which is interesting as part of my connection to Jesus, and the healing I do through him in Galilean Healing, is through showing the truth that he is desperate for us to remember about him.

So when I went to write a book this year, it was the Banshee who stepped forward. She wanted to be heard and so I have allowed her to speak.

The book, I hope you will find, is a wonderful collection of story telling, connection into the Banshee, my personal experience and a set of beautiful exercises looking at getting to the core of the issue, at deep sorrow & loss, at anger which takes you forward into finding your words, at ancestral healing and finding joy in your soul tribe.

If you would like to get to know the Banshee better, or resonate with seeking the freedom and peace that comes with the healing she brings, please have a look at my book today by clicking here. Available pretty much anywhere on paperback and Kindle.

I would love to hear your thoughts and if she resonates with you!

Love as always
