The Shaman and his apprentice. A lesson in change. (2 min read)

A story of truth, magic and wisdom, from Rachael’s guide to you. Achannelled story.

A native American Shaman took his apprentice to the Great Standing Rock.

From here they could see the whole valley. The Shaman pointed out the dry parched earth; the plants barely clinging on for life. He showed him how the den of the Coyote and her cubs had not been left for several days. They watched the Jack Rabbit scratch out what it could from the dust.

His apprentice wept for the valley and asked for change.  The Shaman explained it would. But it would take time. The Coyote would likely loose her cubs before the rains came again and maybe the Jack Rabbit and his brothers would pass too. His tears turned to anger and he asked surely a great and powerful man such as the Shaman could help? Why wouldn’t he do anything?

So the Shaman took his staff and raised himself up. He turned his face to the skies and drew up from the Earth. The ground began to tremble and a great wind grew. The Shaman flung the energy up into the sky and screamed at the heavens. The sky clouded and turned red. It began to rain. It began to pour. And as it did lightening forked across the sky and struck the ground all around them. The apprentice cowered against a rock and shielded his face from what he saw.

When the rains began to die down the Shaman settled his bones on the floor beside his apprentice. He placed his arm around the his shoulders and tipped his face up to him. Still shaking, the apprentice looked out across the valley again.

The plants had sprung up and were now facing the sun, which shone through the parting clouds. The Jack Rabbits had reemerged after weathering the storm with it’s family. And the Coyote and her pups drank from the newly formed stream outside their den.

‘All is good’ the Shaman explained. ‘All is good. You asked for change. You pleaded for change. Change is what had been given.’

Give thanks for the storm.

Love as always
